![]() ![]() Sure, the monsters do not look all that good, though better compared to some of the poorer examples of the medium like those found in certain Gamera films, but they manage to evoke what is needed and make the movie better for it. Nothing is lost and it's all audible, just notably rough.įor the score, the surreal, grinding horns and violins nicely peaked, free from distortion.As far as kaiju movies go, Legend of Dinosaurs & Monster Birds is a little cliché and about as cheesy as they come but at the end of the day, a lot of fun. Dialog wavers in clarity, losing firmness in places, adding a scratchy, coarse quality. Audioīoth an English dub and original Japanese mono are offered in PCM. That's the only thing holding Legend of Dinosaurs back. Primaries do look quite vibrant, but always plays host to an off-tint, aged hue. Peak white takes either a yellow or green-ish hue, as do the other colors. If there's a complaint, the color grading looks both skewed and exaggerated. This doesn't always hold tree though as shadows lighten when underground in caves, especially during the finale. Unexpectedly heavy shadows fill even daylight scenes, teetering on crushing if avoidant. Quite dynamic, black levels provide persistent, aggressive depth. Grain resolves easily leaving behind only clarity. Sharpness remains satisfying, the film stock preserved well, and source materials consistent. Fidelity easily bests the long out-of-print DVD edition. ![]() Discotek debuts Legend of Dinosaurs on Blu-ray with a fresh new master, dripping with resolution and detail.
